Q: How far in advance should I start shopping for a bridal gown?

A: I recommend coming in up to 12 months out from your wedding day. 

Q: Why so far in advance? 

A: You are the star of the show! The dress is one of the main elements that will set the style for the entire wedding.  If you choose a gown early on in your journey it will help everything else fall into place.

Don’t worry if you are short on time we can still help!  We have even managed to find, fit and deliver a dress for a wedding in just 4 days!

Q: When is the best time to schedule my appointment?

A: For a quieter, more personalised experience, try to book and appointment during the day between Monday and Thursday. These are our quietest times in store and we are able to offer our brides as much attention as they need.

If you choose to visit us on the weekends - I really can’t stress this enough - make an appointment. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to try on dresses without one.

Also, let us know how many people you will be bringing with you so we can try to accommodate everyone.  We suggest that you bring no more than 2 other people and that they should be the ones that know you and whose opinions you trust.

Of course sometimes there are more special people and we are always happy to accommodate, just remember the more people the more opinions!  Sometimes the bride gets lost with everyone else offering their best intentions!

Our bridal appointments are 60 minutes long and you will have a one on one appointment.

Q: If I just want to look around, do I need to book an appointment?

A: I highly recommend making an appointment. For most brides, this is the single biggest purchase they’ve made in their lives so far. We want to ensure you have all the support you need to make that decision, and an appointment helps us to provide you with the best possible service.

Buying a wedding gown is much different from buying a dress at your favourite store. A typical wedding dress takes 100 hours to create and may be embellished with beads, lace, sequins, and more. Because these highly detailed gowns are heavier than what you are used to wearing, they require extra assistance when trying them on.

Also, while knowing your size is helpful, it doesn’t always translate exactly to a wedding gown. Our well-trained stylists will help you choose a dress and suggest lingerie or under garments that compliment the dress and accentuate your figure.

Finally, it is important to note that almost every wedding dress will have to be altered. We have specialist alterations people that will help closer to the wedding with this important step.

Q: I am the kind of person who likes to shop alone. Can I come in by myself?

A: Of course! Shopping for a bridal gown is just like your wedding—it is all about you and should reflect your personality. Some brides like to bring their friends and others like to go shopping by themselves, especially if they already have a clear idea of what they want.

We help many brides who choose to shop by themselves. We have expert stylists to assist you with your decision, and they will ensure that you walk out of the store confident, with the look that’s right for you.

Q: I’ve heard that bridal shops often don’t carry a large range of sizes?

A: This is where Affordable Bridal is outstanding, we carry over 150 different styles and most of our styles are available in sizes 0 – 30. If we don’t have the exact dress in your size we can help find a similar style to help create the vision of your dream gown.

We recommend coming in to try on dresses to determine the appropriate size for the style you pick out. But if you want a special style or size, we would be delighted to order it (please note, this takes about 12-16 weeks on average). We also have beautiful gowns that you can take home the same day.

Q: There are so many brides out there—can I really expect to find a dress that’s unique to me?

A: Your dress will be unique because you are unique, and it will suit you in every way—your inspiration, your style, your personality. But there are other ways to ensure that your dress is truly yours. For instance, we can add sleeves to sleeveless gowns, or add embellishments to your dress.

Another way to customize the look of your gown is with accessories. We offer more than 50 veil styles, and different lengths change the look and feel of the dress. We also have a huge selection of hair pieces and jewellery.

Q: Will my appointment be like the shows I see on TV?

A: Let’s be real—TV is for entertainment, and those shows play up the drama for ratings. Our store experience is different, as it is focused solely on helping you find your dream dress!  Does everyone cry when they find the perfect dress?  No, are you normally someone who cries?  Then chances are you will not cry when you find the perfect gown either.  It will feel perfect and that is how you know it is the one.

Q: What is the best way to shop for bridesmaid dresses? Do my bridesmaids need an appointment? Should they all visit the store together, if possible?

A: Every bride and bridal party is different, but there are a few constants when shopping for bridesmaid dresses.

If you prefer to shop with them at the same time you shop for your gown, I recommend booking two appointments, one for the bridal gown and another for bridesmaid dresses.

Some brides prefer to shop with one bridesmaid, choose a dress for the bridal party, and instruct the rest of the members which dress or dresses to order afterwards, either in-store or online.

We recommend a store appointment so your stylist can help you pick out the style, fabric, and colour, then work with you and your party to ensure everything is ready in time for the event.

How do I place an order ?

There are 2 options to place an order with us. Either call us on 02 6239 2900 or send your order via email.  If possible drop into our store at 107 Wollongong St, Fyshwick ACT 2609.  Where one of our friendly staff will help.

  • Immediate delivery gowns can be shipped within 24 hours. However as most gowns have a lead time of 3 - 4 months, details will be discussed at your time of order.
  • If you are not home at time of delivery Australia Post or Couriers will leave a card.
  • Please let us know if your order is URGENT, there may be a fee added to your order if you require it urgently.
  • If products are temporarily Out of Stock or there is a delay with your order you will be notified by email.

Delivery Address:

  • Must be a street address - NO Post Office Box Address will be accepted
  • To ship to different address please enter all required details in the order section.
